Upper House Barlaston Wedding Photography

A Boutique Hotel Wedding Venue

Living just 10-minute drive from The Upper House in Barlaston means I’m a favourite when couples are searching for a local wedding photographer. These usually contemporary smaller wedding days fit my personality down to a tee. I‘m always looking to return and put a new stamp on this lovely place

Planning your special day at The Upper House?

The Upper House is such a beautiful place which I have photographed so many times. I love returning time and time again so why not drop me message and find out a little more?

Behind the Scenes at The Upper House

Through the magic of a 360 camera, I’m able to capture behind-the-scenes content on my wedding days to show my current and future couples exactly what it would like for them to have me along at their Dunwood Hall wedding day

All of these videos and more are captured in the most subtle way making sure to not disrupt the wedding day at all. I feel the connection between a couple and their photographer is a really important factor hence why I wanted to show this part of my work as well. I’m not like every wedding photographer and showing you these behind-the-scenes videos from The Upper House hopefully helps me to reinforce that statement.

If you are still looking at wedding photographers’ websites and have come to Adam’s website, look no further, you’ve found your photographer!

From our initial meeting with Adam right the way through to our wedding he was approachable, helpful and always happy to offer advice when we weren’t sure about things. We initially met over Zoom and after spending 2 hours chatting we knew he was the best person for the job. Closer to the wedding he came over to our house and we discussed the photos we wanted and the logistics of the day

We couldn’t be more pleased with our photographs, they completely encapsulated the joy of the day.

The History of The Upper House at Barlaston

Heading through Barlaston village and then turning off of Station Road you make your way up the long sweeping driveway which brings you to this stunning period built standing tall in the Staffordshire countryside.

Steeped in local history this country house was built in 1845 for Francis Wedgwood the grandson of the great Josiah Wedgwood. Josiah was a world-renowned pottery entrepreneur and local public figure in Stoke-on-Trent. A true architect of the pottery boom which saw Stoke-on-Trent be appropriately given the nickname of The Potteries. Now sat as a defining character to the history of Barlaston and Stoke-on-Trent over 200 years later.

Much like the opulent pottery Josiah crafted this house is a huge show of wealth with most of its original period decoration still in good health bringing the traditional character of The Upper House into the modern day.

The huge stone staircase which hugs the outer walls of the mahogany atrium is definitely a striking feature which makes your walk to your wedding ceremony even more special.

Privately owned this classic luxury local wedding venue has continued to find a contemporary edge which gives you the perfect concoction of history meets modern.

With acres of gloriously maintained characterful gardens and woodland, The Upper House really is one of Staffordshire’s premier outdoor wedding venues with a long stone aisle leading to a traditional metal framed pavilion.

How a Wedding Unfolds at The Upper House

The Upper House delivers small to medium-sized weddings with meticulous attention to detail throughout the whole process. The attentive staff keep their focus by delivering only 1 wondrous wedding per day making sure their attention is with nothing but their brides and grooms.

Hosting up to 100 guests for your wedding service in The Novello Room you can then move your whole party to The Woodland Suite for your wedding breakfast but not before enjoying delicious canapés and bubbly on the outdoor terrace. My favourite layout for The Upper House though is to have just 60 guests and then convert the wonderful Novello Room into your wedding breakfast space whilst enjoying your drinks reception. Then in the evening you can head into The Woodland Suite with your extra guests and enjoy a dance to a DJ set and a hog roast on the covered terrace.

The whole of The Upper House’s communal space for your wedding is designed with a soft touch which gives its couples the best blank canvas to add their personal touch to the day. If you don’t want to add much then the rooms stand proud on their own or you could get an external decorator like Elegant Affair couple with a local florist to convert your wedding into your dream.

Once the day is over you and your guests can retire to the 24 beautifully individually classically styled rooms. These luxury rooms come in a range of sizes including suites and a honeymoon/bridal suite with a balcony. Should you need more rooms then there is a Premier Inn nearby at Trentham Gardens.

Should you want to explore the local area following your wedding then you can dive straight into the adjoining history of the Upper House by visiting the amazing World of Wedgwood. Should you want to grab some food then there is the super tasty Plume of Feathers down the road or you can grab an extended break at Moddershall Oaks Country Spa for your honeymoon. Alternatively, you can stay at the Upper House and eat the beautiful food their executive chef prepares daily in their segregated dining room.

Various Photography Gems at this Country House

Being an Upper House wedding photographer is a really great experience. This venue never ceases to produce amazing photographs for me and my brides and grooms. It brings interesting light and colour into all of my work with its artistic architectural design shining through every time.

With either a neutral blank canvas luxury decor or a highly contrasting period feature backdrop I love to shoot weddings here. Photographing the contrast of the bride in her white wedding dress walking down the dark stone staircase lit very softly by the skylight is one of my favourite things to do. Then contrasting against this setup wedding ceremonies in The Novello Room are always brightly lit with light streaming through the roof lanterns. Giving me ease to capture such vital moments as my couples exchange their vows, rings and a “first kiss”.

Making our way outdoors we could spend years getting lost amongst the local landscape of large fields or keep it close to The Upper House and photograph colourful photographs whilst using the beautiful flora and foliage for backdrops. Characterful period features and sculptures also bring interesting icons to my photos.

In the evening The Woodland Suite is transformed into a great atmosphere for capturing dancing photographs. The colour-changing lights provide a great colourful backdrop to my dance floor portraits.

Meet Adam Lowndes

A Upper House at Barlaston Wedding photographer

No matter your race, colour, creed, or sexuality, you are everything to me. I wouldn’t live this incredible photography dream job without you. I can’t help but be your absolute wedding hero.

My couples are usually super down to earth and are planning a relaxed fun wedding day surrounded by all those people they love. I love a party! So when it comes to weddings I can’t help but get wrapped up in the magic of your day. Getting so stuck in with your wedding allows me to translate so much more feeling into my photographs. At some point, you’ll want a few awesome photographs of the two of you. These photographs will take minutes and not hours so we can get straight back to the party. Oh and those family formal portraits, don’t worry about them, they’ll be zero hassle.

With my super extraverted personality I’ll be one of the most excited guests from the moment I arrive. It won’t take your wedding party long to assume we are lifelong friends.
