Whistle Barns Wedding Photography
A Railway-Inspired Modern Wedding Barn
Whistle Barns is a beautiful space to have the perfect wedding. Being one of the newer venues to join the Best Day Ever / Ensarb group, it really takes a lot of the greatness from other venues channels it into this fresh space. I hope to continue photographing here for many years.
Planning your special day at Whistle Barns?
Whistle Barns is such a beautiful place which I have photographed so many times. I love returning time and time again so why not drop me message and find out a little more?

Behind the Scenes at Whistle Barns
Through the magic of a 360 camera, I’m able to capture behind-the-scenes content on my wedding days to show my current and future couples exactly what it would like for them to have me along at their Whistle Barns wedding day
All of these videos and more are captured in the most subtle way, making sure to not disrupt the wedding day at all. I feel the connection between a couple and their photographer is a really important factor hence why I wanted to show this part of my work as well. I’m not like every wedding photographer and showing you these behind-the-scenes videos from Whistle hopefully helps me to reinforce that statement.
@adamlowndesphotography Couples choose wedding venues for reasons and it would be idiotic of me to ignore the glaring statements of architecture and design around me and not make portraits with them in mind. @adamlowndesphotography If you know the Whistle Barns wedding venue then you know this staircase and maybe know the confetti tradition. I was positive I wasn’t going to mess this up and just knew it would make an awesome photograph. If you are still looking at wedding photographers’ websites and have come to Adam’s website, look no further, you’ve found your photographer!
From our initial meeting with Adam right the way through to our wedding he was approachable, helpful and always happy to offer advice when we weren’t sure about things. We initially met over Zoom and after spending 2 hours chatting we knew he was the best person for the job. Closer to the wedding he came over to our house and we discussed the photos we wanted and the logistics of the day
We couldn’t be more pleased with our photographs, they completely encapsulated the joy of the day.

The History of Whistle Barns
Whistle Barns is a relatively new addition to the Derbyshire wedding scene, but it certainly doesn’t feel like a venue that’s still finding its feet. Set down Long Lane near Eastwood, the venue has been designed around the idea of creating a completely exclusive and immersive wedding experience, combining the character of a rural setting with some seriously impressive modern features.
The venue takes its inspiration from the surrounding countryside and traditional agricultural buildings, but there’s much more going on here than your typical barn wedding venue. The owners have created something with a real sense of personality, from the dramatic ceremony space to the private pub and lakeside setting.
What I particularly like about Whistle Barns is that it doesn’t try to be overly traditional. There are rustic elements and countryside views, of course, but they’ve been combined with contemporary design and some really unique features. It gives couples a venue that feels relaxed and welcoming while still having plenty of wow factor.
Whistle Barns Weddings
A wedding at Whistle Barns has a brilliant flow to it because the different parts of the venue have been designed to take you through the day naturally.
The morning begins in the Dressing Rooms, giving you and your wedding party somewhere to get ready and enjoy those final few hours before everything begins. Then comes one of the venue’s biggest talking points: the Ceremony Barn. The incredible double staircase creates a seriously dramatic entrance and makes this part of the venue completely different from anything you’ll find at most barn wedding venues.
After the ceremony, guests can head into The Engine Room, your own private pub for the day. This is where things really start to relax. Drinks are flowing, everyone is catching up and celebrating, and you’ve got the chance to enjoy the atmosphere without feeling like you’re being constantly moved from one room to another.
The grounds offer plenty of opportunities for guests to enjoy themselves too, with the lake, waterfront areas and outdoor spaces all becoming part of the day. Later, everyone moves into the Lakeside Dining space for the wedding breakfast and speeches before the room transforms again for the evening celebrations.
The venue also has on-site guest accommodation, including its distinctive converted shipping-container accommodation. It all adds to the feeling that Whistle Barns is more than just somewhere you arrive for a ceremony and leave after the party — everything is designed around creating a full wedding experience.
Photographing at Whistle Barns
From my perspective as a wedding photographer, Whistle Barns gives you a huge amount of variety without having to travel anywhere. The double staircase in the Ceremony Barn immediately gives the day a big visual moment, while The Engine Room provides a completely different atmosphere for those relaxed, candid photographs during the drinks reception.
Outside is where the venue really opens up. The lake and waterfront decking are fantastic for couple portraits, and I love that the grounds have plenty of character without feeling overly manicured or formal. There are also some genuinely unusual features to work with, including the vintage train carriage and the distinctive red-brick buildings around the venue.
As the evening arrives, the lakeside setting can be brilliant for slipping away for ten minutes and getting some relaxed portraits before heading back to the party. That variety is something I always appreciate because it means I can tell the full story of your day without spending hours marching you around the venue taking photographs.
My approach would be exactly the same here as it is everywhere else: I’ll let you enjoy your wedding, spend time with your guests and get properly involved in the party, while I capture everything happening around you. Whistle Barns has enough character to make the photographs interesting, but the most important thing will always be the people and moments that make your wedding yours.
If you’re planning a wedding at Whistle Barns and looking for a photographer who’ll capture both the big moments and everything happening in between, I’d love to be part of it. It’s a venue with loads of personality, and I think that makes it perfect for the kind of relaxed, natural wedding photography I love creating.
Meet Adam Lowndes
A WHISTLE BARNS Wedding photographer
No matter your race, colour, creed, or sexuality, you are everything to me. I wouldn’t live this incredible photography dream job without you. I can’t help but be your absolute wedding hero.
My couples are usually super down to earth and are planning a relaxed fun wedding day surrounded by all those people they love. I love a party! So when it comes to weddings I can’t help but get wrapped up in the magic of your day. Getting so stuck in with your wedding allows me to translate so much more feeling into my photographs. At some point, you’ll want a few awesome photographs of the two of you. These photographs will take minutes and not hours so we can get straight back to the party. Oh and those family formal portraits, don’t worry about them, they’ll be zero hassle.
With my super extraverted personality I’ll be one of the most excited guests from the moment I arrive. It won’t take your wedding party long to assume we are lifelong friends.
