My Family Escape to the Brecon Beacons

My mother turned 60 in January. Along with the usual celebrations we had a big secret holiday to Zanzibar planned. Due to my partner falling seriously ill midway through last year it was cancelled. None of us even considered it. If we couldn’t go as a unit we weren’t going at all. As a substitute we planned to go on a UK break. We had an awesome time a couple of years ago when we explored the West Coast of Scotland from a beautiful little village called Port Appin. We hoped to resurrect some of this awesomeness with a similar trip planned.

My father found the beautiful Charity Farm which would be our home of choice for the week. A stunning converted farm house on the edge of the Brecon Beacons and the English/Welsh border. Complete with it’s own Snooker/Pool parlour, Indoor Barn Cinema, wood fired hot tub and everything else. It really was an escape which we all needed. Through the busy-ness of life we often all cross paths for an evening or morning but we don’t really ever get chance to fully digest each other. Whilst surrounded by distraction in many forms I often struggle to focus and empty my mind. Submitting myself to temporary deprivation by locking myself away can sometimes be just what the doctor ordered.

Be sure to check out a few shots of the house on my personal instagram if you’re interested. Below is a selection of photographs from two walks we went on. Then at the bottom there’s a family photograph. Whilst driving back down to the house from having been at a wedding on the last Saturday I thought it apt to capture a family photograph to encapsulate the moment. At weddings people often don’t enjoy the family photographs as they’re a little too regimented. When looking back at old photographs I often find the family photographs to be the best to look at. They capture everyone’s current likeness together as one.

Anyhow back in the office now after my much needed holiday and a great first wedding to kick off my 2018. I hope you enjoyed reading about my Brecon Beacons Family Escape.
