Derwent Dam Engagement Shoot | Georgina & Tom

The Dam Overflows Just For Us

For those couples looking for something a little extra special, I’ll often suggest some really different engagement shoot locations like Derwent Dam. They’ll very regularly need a large drive before we can start shooting as they exist in some wonderful special places. As you can imagine I often shoot in spaces around me so it’s nice to break up the regularity.

Georgina and Tom’s family brought them a gift card for a shoot with me to plan their recent engagement and I couldn’t wait to do it.  I’ve known them both for so long now and also know Georgina a little longer so I knew it would be a great evening.

After several postponements due to the weather, we finally managed to fight through the traffic to capture some beautiful frames at Derwent Dam up in the centre of the Peak District. I often come near this way as I can’t stop loving the area. I’ve shot at the nearby Lady Bower Reservoir before and also been not too far away at Monsal Head recently for an awesome wedding.

The icing on the cake was the fact all the late-August rain we’d had given the reservoir a good fill and managed to make it cascade over the top of Derwent Dam and down its man-made waterfall. This whole shoot was built around this happening and I worked relentlessly to try and plan a time and date around it. Through several conversations with the local visitor centre and the park ranger, we managed to have the truly special feature in the back of the photographs.
