Welsh Countryside Engagement Shoot | Heledd & Phil

When Heledd & Phil got in touch earlier this year to ask if I wanted capture an engagement shoot on a welsh mountain I could hardly say no. They then made it practically impossible to say no by throwing in hundreds of their sheep, their 6 dogs, a quad bike and their fold of Highland cattle. It was truly going to be like no other engagement shoot I’d ever photographed.

I feel like over the last few years I’ve really begun to grow a strong connection to Wales. I’ve shot numerous weddings there, my sister moved there just under 2 years ago and more recently I’ve taken an abundance of holidays there. It’s a stunning place which sure does hold a special place in my heart.

After driving over 2 hours to just outside of Machynlleth I met with Heledd & Phil at their country home. Dogs and quad bike loaded we headed up to the area around the Glaslyn Nature Reserve for a bit of fun. Incase you hadn’t realised this really was a shoot of firsts, first time shooting on an actual mountain top, first time photographing with 6 dogs, first time riding on the front of a quad bike up a steep hill, first time photographing highland cattle in an engagement shoot, the list goes on.

First off, Phil drove us up to the nearby trig point on his quad to get a real vast look over the surrounding beauty. Seeing the sea peer over the distant mountains was a beautiful site and with the day so clear we had the best outlook. it wasn’t long until we let the dogs loose and had a wander around the natural reservoir. I absolutely love the more chilled out photographs with the dogs. When meeting a couple for an engagement shoot it takes a lot of work to make them feel relaxed. With 6 dogs running around it sure did help take the attention away from the camera.

A real once in a lifetime opportunity I will never forget. Massive thanks to Heledd and Phil for letting me photograph a defining part of their story.
